Shin Sawada (沢田 慎 Sawada Shin) is one of the students at Shirokin High School and a student of Kumiko Yamaguchi. He is known as the Leader of the 2-4 Class.
Background
He's portrayed as the class leader of the class 2-4. Everyone in the class looks up to him. Shin is feared because of an incident back in junior high, where he punched a teacher.
Personality
Although Shin is one of the greatest fighters at Shirokin, he is also an excellent student. He is at the top of not only Class 2-4, but also his grade level if not the entire academy. He is usually a serious person with a laidback attitude, and cares very much for his friends.
Appearance
Shin has nearly shoulder length black, which is currently dyed bright red. His hair is typically parted with the right side nearly covering his eyes. He is mostly seen wearing the Shirokin school uniform, and a necklace. During Spring and Winter, he also wears a dark winter coat. In the second half part of the series, he was seen wearing a summer version of the Shirokin school uniform.
In his live-action appearance, Shin's hair is black which is currently dyed mahogany brown with blond highlights but on later episodes his natural black hair darkens over time leaving his dyed mahogany brown hair became highlights on the tips and when he wears his Shirokin school uniform, his school jacket is undone, showing his white short-sleeved undershirt or a long-sleeved button shirt.
Relationships
Yamaguchi Kumiko
When Shin first meets Kumiko, a classmate throws a packinko ball at her, which she dodges and catches it. This causes Shin to immediately realize that something is not normal about Kumiko and he keeps an eye on her after to find out the truth.
While everyone else in the 2-4 class calls Kumiko 'Yankumi', Shin is the only student in the class to not call her that nickname. Instead, he just refers her as 'Yamaguchi'. She is also the person who serves as his primary love interest throughout the series, which he confesses that he loves her in the final chapter of the manga.[1]
Kumai Teruo
Kuma and Shin are best friends since childhood. They met in fifth grade and became friends after the "bush" incident.[2] When push comes to shove, Shin counts on Kuma for support. For instance, Kuma was told to go ask for Kuroda family's help to rescue Kumiko.
Oshima Kyotaro
The two share a mutual respect for each other.
One time, Shin helped Kyo-san fighting against thugs. In return, Kyo-san brought Shin along for a night adventure, introducing Shin to gambling and hostess club which angered Kumiko the next morning.[3]
Shinohara Tomoya
Ever since Kumiko unwittingly expressed her love for Shinohara to Shin, it is suggested that he considered Shinohara as a rival. He even tried to surpass Shinohara by reluctantly participating in an Autumn Festival and wearing Fundoshi.[4]
Fuji
Fuji is a dog owned by Kuroda Family but he keeps coming into Shin's apartment. They have a good companionship, although Shin acts aloof towards him. Fuji enjoys teasing Shin and intentionally bringing up topics about Kumiko and love, which leads to Shin violently squeezing him.
Shin and Fuji spends their time hanging out together, from participating in a competition to solving murder mysteries. Most of the time, Shin refused to tag along, but he did at the end after being persuaded with gifts and Kumiko's belongings.
